Radically Faithful

Our theme for the coming year will be "Radically Faithful". The scholar Angela Davis reminds us that "radical simply means grasping things at their roots," so we will be asking what the roots of our faith really are. We'll be exploring this theme in worship, in our adult-ed, and by asking people to read along with a couple books through the year.

As an introduction to this theme our worship during Advent this year will be looking for:

  • The Root of Hope

  • The Root of Peace

  • The Root of Joy

  • The Root of Love

  • and The Root of Religion

The first book I'd like to invite people to purchase and read is "Becoming Rooted: One Hundred Days of Reconnecting with Sacred Earth" by Randy Woodley. Rev. Dr. Randy Woodley is an activist, scholar, author, teacher, and wisdom keeper of mixed white and Native American heritage who speaks on justice, faith, the earth, and Indigenous realities. He and his wife, Edith, co-sustain Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice and Eloheh Farm & Seeds outside Portland, Oregon.

We will start reading "Becoming Rooted" on January 1st and read it continuously for the first 100 days of 2026, ending on April 10th (right after Easter). We will use the devotions which fall on Sundays in our worship during that time.
